About Us

Barbie INC. was officially established in 1956 in El Segundo, California by Ruth Handler who was a mother of 2 children, Barbara and Kenneth.

Ruth observed her young daughter Barbara constantly playing with paper dolls, and noticed that she very much enjoyed giving them adult roles. At this time, majority of children's toy dolls were a depiction infants, therefore she saw an amazing oppitunity to create an adult-bodied doll.

58 years later Barbie INC. are still going strong and will continue to bring you the best and most beutiful Barbie products you could ever imagine.

About the Barbie Dream House

Barbie's first ever 'home' was an adorable 1960's apartment with minute furnishings and no bathroom or kitchen.

It was designed in 1962 by Ruth Handler and the home was made completely from cardboard and was designed so that girls could fold it up and carry it around. Barbie's Dream House/Apartment graciously took on the style of the 1960's era incorporating a hi-fi TV, bed with bedside table, sofa, coffee table, paintings and a side chair.

However, over time Barbie's Dream House has developed into an elegant and rather large home that almost replicates the Tudor-styled Houses of England. With endless class and style, the modern Barbie Dream Houses are a must have for every young princess.
